If you are looking for a delicious baking mix without the sugar or carbs, check out our friends from Good Dee’s for everything from cupcakes and cookies to cornbread and brownies! These mixes are so simple even your young children can lend a hand!
If you don’t have time to bake from scratch, don’t have all the specialty ingredients, or just like the convenience of whipping up a “boxed” cake, Good Dee’s may become a staple in your home.
Good Dee’s is a small company with a huge following of loyal fans. The owner, Deana Karim, began the company after turning to a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet in order to lose weight and live a healthier life. With a desire to stay on her dietary track and help others like her effortlessly bake up cake, brownies, or cookies every now and then, she got to work creating baking mixes with ketogenic-friendly ingredients.
Today, Good Dee’s offers a range of mixes such as pancakes, muffins, brownies, blondies, cakes, and cookies. All are gluten-free, sugar-free, grain-free, and soy-free. And unlike many packaged low-carb and keto products, there are no “hidden” sugars or non-keto ingredients. But how do they taste?
We’ve tried the cake mixes, blondies, and cookies, and we loved all but the blondies (they have a slight safflower-oil taste). The cake mixes made perfect cupcakes and are great bases; you can make them your own by mixing into the batter sugar-free chocolate chips, fresh fruit, nuts, or anything else your keto heart desires. (We took the Yellow Snack Cake mix and turned it into lemon raspberry cupcakes by adding some lemon zest, lemon juice, and fresh raspberries to the batter. Check out the recipe below.)
About Serving Sizes and Nutritional Information
Most of Good Dee’s mixes offer a reasonable portion (although portions are never big enough when it comes to dessert!) with breakdown of calories, protein, fats, and carbohydrate comparable to keto desserts found on Pinterest or popular keto/low-carb blogs. The products are sweetened with erythritol, without lesser-quality sugar substitutes (our ketone levels appreciated this). The only product we’d pass on due to the higher carb count is the pancake mix.
How Good Dee’s Products Affect Blood Glucose and Ketones
We always test our blood ketones and glucose after trying new products and found Good Dee’s fared quite well for a pre-packaged “box mix”; it resulted in elevations that were well within our limits of what we’d expect from eating a quality keto treat. Still, to maintain ketosis, we always recommend testing your own glucose and ketone responses to food because bio-individuality means what works for one may not work for you.
