What Is GKI?

  • Last updated November 25, 2017

The Glucose-Ketone-Index (GKI) is a ratio between glucose and ketone measurements. It’s an extremely important bio-marker for your metabolic health. The best part? Your GKI is literally at your fingertips because you can determine it with a simple calculation using your blood glucose and ketone readings.

Why GKI is important to you

On their own, glucose or ketone readings give you a snapshot of where you are at this exact moment, which means they can be independently influenced by immediate variables, such as stress (which heightens blood glucose) or a fat-rich meal (which heightens ketones). The GKI gives you a better overall view on your metabolic health and state of ketosis because the calculation takes into account the variables and thus normalizes them, resulting in a more accurate, stable picture of your status.

Once you know your GKI, you can use it as a tool to help track your ketosis and general metabolic status. In the medical industry, it is also becoming an increasingly important measure for therapeutic ketosis used to manage chronic health conditions, including certain types of cancer, type 2 diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s, chronic inflammatory diseases, epilepsy, insulin resistance, and traumatic brain injury.

How do I calculate my GKI?

If you have an earlier Keto-Mojo model like the TD-4279 or Bluetooth integrated meter, all you have to do is take your glucose and ketone reading and enter those readings on our GKI calculator webpage. Be sure to enter your readings into the correct calculator. We have one that measures glucose in mg/dl and one that measures glucose in mmol/L.

If you have the newest Keto-Mojo meter, the GKI-Bluetooth meter, the meter will calculate your GKI for you!

  2. Why is GKI NUMBERS saying I’m not in GKI KETOSIS but ketones is saying I’m in ketosis? I realize if glucose is high it will say that but why is ketones numbers telling me I’m in ketosis?
    Thank you

  3. I’d like information about GKI: Is it possible to have too high or too low a number? Either GKI too high or too low cause any health problems?

  4. Refresh my memory on glide formula so I can calculate on my own.
