MyMojoHealth: Troubleshooting Meter Sync Issues on Android

If MyMojoHealth cannot find your meter, or finds it but cannot sync your readings, follow the steps below in order. Try syncing again after each step. If syncing works, you do not need to continue.

Note: Settings and menu names vary depending on your Android version and phone manufacturer.

Try these steps first

  1. Update MyMojoHealth: Open the MyMojoHealth page in Google Play. If an Update button appears, tap it to install the latest version.

If Google Play says the app is unavailable or incompatible with your device, please contact our support team. Apps on Google Play.

  2. Turn on your meter and place it near your phone: Keep your meter within arm’s reach, preferably beside your phone. Remove any test strip or control strip before syncing.

If your meter’s screen turns off while you are troubleshooting, turn it back on before trying again.

  3. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on: Open your phone’s Settings and find Bluetooth. Depending on your phone, it may be under Connected devices or Connections.

Turn Bluetooth on, then return to MyMojoHealth.

  4. Check MyMojoHealth’s permissions: Go to Settings > Apps > MyMojoHealth > Permissions. You may need to tap See all apps first.

If Nearby devices is listed, tap it and select Allow.

On many Android versions, you also need to make sure your phone’s Location setting is on before the app can find your meter.

You can check this in Settings > Location.

Return to MyMojoHealth and try syncing again. If Location permission is requested, allow access while using the app.

Allow the permissions MyMojoHealth requests to find and connect to your meter.

Why might Location access be required?

Some Android versions require Location permission to scan for nearby Bluetooth devices. This means an app may need that permission to find your meter.

Newer Android versions provide a separate Nearby devices permission, but it is often used together with Location. The permissions you see depend on your Android version and the app version installed.

If your meter still will not sync

  1. Check whether another device is connecting to your meter: If you have used the meter with another phone or tablet, temporarily turn off Bluetooth on that device while you troubleshoot.
  2. Force stop and reopen MyMojoHealth: Go to Settings > Apps > MyMojoHealth and tap Force stop. Confirm if prompted.

Reopen MyMojoHealth and try syncing again.

  5. Turn Airplane Mode on and back off: Open your phone’s settings. Turn Airplane Mode on, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back off.

It often helps reset internal Android errors that affect Bluetooth.

Return to MyMojoHealth and try syncing again.

  6. Stop the phone from putting the app to sleep: On Samsung devices, go to Settings > Battery > Background usage limits and remove MyMojoHealth from “Sleeping apps” and “Deep sleeping apps”.

  7. Set the app’s battery usage to Unrestricted: This keeps syncing from being cut off in the background.

Go to Settings > Apps > MyMojoHealth > Battery and set the mode to Unrestricted.

  8. Disconnect your other Bluetooth gadgets for a moment: Earbuds, a watch, a car — too many connected devices at once can crowd out the meter. Reconnect them after the sync with your meter.
  9. Restart your phone: Restart your phone using its power menu. Once it restarts, turn on your meter, open MyMojoHealth, and try syncing again.

Keep the app open on your screen and your phone unlocked until syncing finishes.

Meter is found but doesn’t sync?

  1. Unpair the meter in the app, then set it up again: In the MyMojoHealth app, open Settings > Devices, select your device and tap “Unpair Device”.

Then, tap the + button on the Devices screen to add your meter again.

  2. Try the other connection mode: In the MyMojoHealth app, open Settings > Devices and change “Connection Mode” between “Companion Device” and “Location Based”.

Then sync again. Some phones work better on one than the other.

It is okay that selecting Location Based mode will require you to allow access to your device’s location. It is an Android requirement for this mode. MyMojoHealth can’t track your location with it because meters are not tied to a specific location.
