What do “Lo” and “Hi” ketone meter readings mean?

  • Last updated November 19, 2017

For Keto-Mojo models GK+ and GKI

These meters read ketones from 0.1 mmol/L ~ 8.0mmol/L.

Lo Readings

Keto-Mojo meters accurately read ketones down to 0.1 mmol/L.

Following are possible reasons you may get a Lo reading:

  1. You are not in nutritional ketosis and need to reevaluate your carbohydrate consumption and fat intake. Then, test again in a day.
  2. Wash and dry your hands, then repeat the test using a new test strip.
  3.  Your blood sample size is too small. Learn more here.

Hi Readings

Readings above 8.0 mmol/L will show “HI,” meaning your ketone levels are above our ability to measure them.

Following are possible reasons you may get a HI reading:

  1. You are in Therapeutic ketosis. A therapeutic ketogenic diet can be helpful for a range of chronic health conditions such as cancer, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
  2. Wash and dry your hands, then repeat the test using a new test strip. If your result still flashes HI, contact your health care professional as soon as possible.
